Replacing open vent hot water cylinder

Hello,

Would it be possible to replace an open vent hot water cylinder with a non vented one? Would the new one fix water pressure too, as hot water pressure is basically non existent?

Thanks

"Yes it is possible depending on what’s the flow rate and bar pressure on the mains water , an unvented cylinder will increase pressure on hot water significantly more than a vented one"

"Hi,

Yes replacing your existing system with unvented cylinder should cure your water pressure problems. You just need to make sure there is a route available for the safety discharge pipe 👍

Kind regards"

"Yes a unvent hot water cylinder will solve the issue as it is not gravity feed pressure, it is mains water pressure and will go through a pressure reducing valve at 3bar. This is a expensive options. And cheaper option is to install a water pump."

"Hiya yes you would need a unvented cylinder and the hot water pressure would be a lot better."

"Yes, it is possible to replace an open vent (gravity-fed) hot water cylinder with an unvented (pressurised) hot water cylinder, but it’s not a simple swap — it involves significant system upgrades and safety considerations."

"Hi you would need someone to have a very good look at the job first before any answer could be made as you might get away with putting a pump on the hot water to boast the pressure"

"Have good quality water pump fitted, as an unvented cylinder will cost £1500 and raise your storage tank to the attic if possible"

"Yes, you can replace an open vent (gravity-fed) hot water cylinder with an unvented (pressurised) one. This often improves hot water pressure significantly, as unvented systems are fed directly from the mains.

Benefits:

Stronger, more consistent hot water pressure

No need for a cold water tank in the loft

Modern, space-saving design

Important considerations:

Your mains water pressure and flow rate must be suitable (ideally 2–3 bar and 20+ litres per minute)

Pipework upgrades may be needed

Installation must be carried out by a G3-qualified engineer
