Replacement hinges for casement windows

Is it possible to buy replacement hinges for casement uPVC windows? And is it OK for a DIYer to replace them? The windows don't have a warranty.

"Yes it certainly is but make sure you source the correct hinge. Size and whether its a fire escape window.
Also it makes it easier to deglaze the window."

"No don't even begin that: you can buy hinges but they have to be the correct backset and size also hinges never go back in the same place to be honest most hinges are fitted by eye that comes with experience we take calls weekly from customers good DIY guys who need help I would collect some prices with a post"

"I would get a professional to do it..No hinges are the same there are various sizes and different types. I have done a few and they never go in the same holes. Maybe take the sash off and unscrew the hinges then take them to a supplier so they can matche them?"

"Hello, yes it is perfectly fine to swap the hinges over on uPVC windows and anyone with some experience with DIY should be able to do this as it's usually a straight swap. However, it is often required that the sash window is lifted out to replace the hinges and they can be heavy when glazed, so two pairs of hands are required if not used to the weight.

it is also worth noting that installing new hinges will not help to reduce the heat loss through old glazing.

I would always recommend using somebody who has experience in installation of windows to get this work completed for you."

"Yes it is possible to buy hinges, but I'm not sure I would advise do it yourself as there are lots of things to be taken in first
1 ..hinge type ie easy clean, fire escape or restriction or just basic hinge.
2 ..hinge size
3 ..side hung or top hung
4 ..and stack height.
Also before you attempt be sure t
You know how to deglaze window as a heavy window can be tricky.
And if you can deglaze can you reglaze it,is it internal glaze or external glaze ....so please before you attempt it TAKE THESE FACTORS INTO CONSIDERATION"

"Yes it is possible to buy them….((but if the windows are very old it might be hard to get the right ones))….
And yes it is ok for a DIYer to replace them"

"Yes you can buy them and yes you can fit them BUT that can be a real pain in the backside to get to fit correctly and the hinges will come in all shapes and sizes. If you get the exact same ones then it can be a piece of cake but if they are different in any way it can be a nightmare unfortunately. I'd always recommend getting a professional to do it but it isn't impossible by any means if you are a good DIY'er"

"If you know exactly what hinge you need then you will be able to buy them over the counter at some shops, hinges come in different sizes and stacks so i would advise a company come out to have a look and carry out the work for you, if you are going to have a go yourself i would advise unglazing the window before changing them and also make sure there is someone available to help."
