Replace gas fire

I have a gas fire fire with a balanced flue that backs on to a plasterboard wall. I am considering changing to an electric fire. I have spoken to several companies that give different ways of completing the work. Some companies say they will cap off the gas and leave an air filter. Some say they would block it off and block the bottom of the flue. I am just concerned as I don't want any issues like damp.

"All electric fires, or space heaters need different settings according to manufacturers instructions, the safest part would be to The Gas Pipe, remove the Gas Fire, see what space you have left to work with, then Work back from that, but you must always follow the manufacturers instructions"
