Removing old guttering

Who can I hire to remove old guttering? As in the person who takes it away? Can it simply go in a skip?

"Depending on wether or not it has asbestos depends on how it’s removed and by whom, it is illegal to take such gutters to a recycling centre as they are required to be removed and disposed by professionals, however if they are standard plastic then they are able to disposed of by anyone at a recycling centre."

"Old guttering can usually be removed by a roofer, general builder, or a handyman with experience working at height. If you’re having new guttering installed, most installers will remove and dispose of the old system as part of the job.

In terms of disposal:
• Plastic (uPVC) guttering can generally go into a skip as mixed construction waste.
• Metal guttering (aluminium, steel, cast iron) can also go in a skip, although metal is often worth separating for recycling or scrap value.
• If it’s cast iron, some scrap merchants may collect it.

Alternatively, you could hire a licensed waste removal company to take it away. Just ensure they are registered waste carriers.

So yes, it can usually go in a skip, but if you’re replacing the gutters, it’s often simplest to have the contractor remove and dispose of them as part of the overall job."
