If damaged bark is removed from a tree, can it survive?

"Generally if a ring of bark is removed from the entire circumference of the tree then it will probably die. If the area of bark does not go around the whole tree trunk then it should be ok, trees are very resilient. The tree will grow new bark. I hope this answers your question. Kind regards, Lloyd"
