Porcelain worktop pros and cons

Are there any downsides to porcelain worktops? Not tiles but a solid porcelain surface.

"Porcelain worktops look fantastic when they are fabricated correctly. Lots of the cons are fabricator issues as it is very easy to brake when cutting and transporting. There’s only 2 cons I know of 1 is the cost and the second is it can’t be repaired if say you drop a can of beans on the edge, it’s likely to shatter ( not chip like quartz or granite)

Another option to look at is Corian (solid surface)

If you go ahead with porcelain and go for a colour with vains running through the sheet make sure all the vains are running the same way and the vains match up on any down stand or up stand. This really make the world of difference to the end result

Hope this helps
Thx"

"Never heard of porcelain worktops, Quartz, granite corian and wood ,and laminate.
I would say porcelain is a no no, would probably chip easily. Ok for a sink but that’s about it."

"Yes, mate, there are downsides I'll list the main issues I have with the hardened porcelain worktop materials. They can chip easily and crack if there is any movement below the worktop. The matt finish is also a pig to keep clean, it will get a shiny appearance on the surface after a short amount of time giving a patchy appearance."
