"It needs to be painted. Why can't the surface be prepared properly and it's ok"

"I would normally recommend cedar wood to be stained rather than painted as it allows the wood to "breathe".and help extend the lifespan of the wood."

"Cedar wood does not take paint well, and paint can actually reduce the lifespan of your cedar fence. Pressure-treated lumber can be painted or stained, but stain will not soak in as deeply with treated wood than it would with raw. It must dry out before treating"

"Personally I would would stain it as paint generally flakes off in couple years."

"Hi there,
In order to resist longer it would be highly recommended a good coat of wood stain.
If you have more questions please feel free to ask me .
Thank you!

"Staining does the job. I don't think the paint will stay on too long"

"Stained would be the preference for cedar. I would give it two coats also as it’s quite soft wood it will absorb it"

"In my experience, cedar wood to be stained rather than painted. In UK, we have less sunny weather and it will allow the wood to breathe well and keep for a long time."
