Ask your QuestionI have painted my decking with fence paint which I know is wrong can I put decking oil on top of it to preserve it?
Asked by Sue on 25th Jun 2021"You can put a lacquer over it to protect it normally not great to use decking paint on it or even put a clear varnish on it. Does not have to be a dear brand any varnish will do you and give it a shine finish to"
Answered on 28th Jun 2021 - Member since May 2021 - report"Hi
There are 2 types of fence paint, Water based and Oil based. If the fence paint was oil based, ie Creosote I would say that you don't need to worry. If it was water based, you will need to remove all the paint before re-coating with the oil protection to preserve.

"No, the paint will protect it to some degree, and you have probably just created a health and safety issue depending on the type of paint you have used."
