"You can put a lacquer over it to protect it normally not great to use decking paint on it or even put a clear varnish on it. Does not have to be a dear brand any varnish will do you and give it a shine finish to"

"Hi

There are 2 types of fence paint, Water based and Oil based. If the fence paint was oil based, ie Creosote I would say that you don't need to worry. If it was water based, you will need to remove all the paint before re-coating with the oil protection to preserve.

"This may work for a limited amount of time but not really advisable .however depending on how much usage is expected and wear and trar it could be a short term solution"

"No, the paint will protect it to some degree, and you have probably just created a health and safety issue depending on the type of paint you have used."

"Yes, you can put a stain on this and it’ll act as a binder as it’s offers a coating protection to the fences painted wood. However, next time try using timber deck paint it’ll be a better finish."

"Personally I wouldn't. I would go to paint supplier and see what product they recommend."

"Using a clear wood preserver on decking will retain the natural look of the wood whereas a coloured preservative will stain the wood, effectively acting as a decking stain"

"You can buy decking oil in colour you want that will already have chemicals to preserve it"
