ox with some kind of reinforcement bar?

i am cutting a hole in a brick wall to put in a through the wall mailbox.
The wall supports a brick pillar holding an iron gate.
The pillar will not be able to support the weight of the gate once disconnected from the support of the wall.
Is there a way to tie the pillar to the wall over the top of the new mailbox with some sort of reinforcement bar?

"Think with out seeing it use plates to bolt both items together bars I feel won't be strong enough if the pillar is open fill with concrete then insert bars but plates bolted both sides seems a plan"

"You put the nail box higher than the top of the gate so the pier stays strong, Then depending on size take down the top of the pier and rebuild you can use skate as a bridge on the opening,"
