Original 1930s stained glass windows

Our 1930s semi has pretty original glazing on the stairs and porch but we need to upgrade to double glazing. Can the window patterns be recreated with modern windows or can we reuse the originals somehow?

"Hi, you have two options. 1st in the make a stencil template of the window and have this replicated. 2nd option you can have the original lead glass taken out and fitted within a DGU. We have done this method many times."

"The only way around this is sealed light units, they will take your stained glass and put it between two panes of glass making a triple glazed sheet for you."

"Hi there!

it usually depends on the windows themselves- but its often easier and cheaper to replace the windows themselves, and will produce a better performing window (from a double glazing perspective) to go for new.

normally, the frame of the window is only built to accommodate a single pane of glass, and there isn't enough material to accommodate a double glazed unit. in some rare circumstances, they can be adapted. it would also depend on the preservation state of the timber.

some people like to retain the original windows and try and make an internal feature out of them if the stained glass is particularly beautiful, and replace as external units."
