No 1,2,3,4,5 Dial

Hi, none of my radiators in my flat have the turnable dial on them that's normally 1,2,3,4,5 all but two of them heat fine but two won't, the pipe is warm up until the radiator then nothing, tried to bleed one and got water straight away and the others bleed valve is stuck, built into radiator

"Either the system needs to be balanced properly by the valves or the system needs bleeding (every radiator) as there’s air in the system"

"You’ll find that the valves will be needing replaced"

"It might be because the lockshield hasnt been opened, sometimes on radiators they put these on and only open up one side ,you will need a pair of grips to open the shield and that will probably let the water through .if its happning on most rads this could be because the heating system has got sluged up and needs flushing through"

"As a start I would say that one or both of the valves are either closed. If sufficient flow is presenting when you bleed the radiator then it could be that the valve on the outlet side of the radiator is closed. It might also be an issue with poor 'balancing'. To rectify this you would need to slightly restrict the flow of water to some of the working radiators to enable more to flow to the ones that don't."

"You should try balancing your rads.
Close of all the rads. Open the one further away from your boiler wait till it heats up and open the next and the same wait till it heats up carry on doing this until you have done all your rads it should solve your problem"

"I would advise to change the thermostatic radiator valves on the rads as the ones you have are faulty."

"sounds like the system needs balancing, need to close the lockshield side of all rads with spanner they open 1 turn each on rads that are getting warm and open the others up slightly more to balance the flow of water round system water will take its easiest path"

"On the valves, there should be two hexagon cover caps. Unscrew and there should be an Alan keyhole. Can't remember what size you need but you can adjust the two valves. Anti clockwise to open and clockwise to close."

"These rads do not have TRVs fitted, they have old school valves.
If the lockshield valve handle is still there (usually white) you can turn it anti-clockwise to open flow and allow the rad to heat.
Usually, one lockshield has a white turn handle and the other a blanking cap.
If it is missing you may have to gently use a tool on the brass square top. on the valve.
Otherwise, get someone a bit handy to have a look before you call a plumber."
