New oven install

Want a new oven installed. Old one was 13amp connected via plug. Have 6mm cable attached to 40amp on circuit breaker already supplying induction hob. New oven is 2.6kW 16amp.

From what I've looked at i think I do not need new wire from circuit board. Is this correct?

"Yes you do need a new circuit that should go back 2 the fuseboard via a 20 amp double pole switch with a 16amp rcbo"

"Hi Vicky

2.6kW is 11.30amps (2600/230). You will not need a new supply from the consumer unit, one thing to look out for is that the oven may need to be hard wired in to a fused connection unit but it will be stated on the manufacturer's instructions. Hope this helps

"The 6mm cable on a 40A is on the design limit, depending on the length of run and de-rating factors applied normally a 32A protection device is appropriate.

You have indicated an induction hob is fitted but not said what power requirements are required for this, normally these take a lot of power and therefore independent of other electrical appliances.

2.6Kw is under 12A at 230v, the new oven will be able to run of a 13A fused outlet.
With this in mind I would recommend a fused spur off the ring main (32A) to power the over, but again if you have many power using appliances on the ring main it may well be best to install an independent circuit.

Hope this is helpful for you.

"The new 2.6kW will pull around 11-12amps.
This ‘could’ be installed on a socket outlet and plug or via 13amp fused spur.
Unless the manufacturer specifies an independent circuit for any reason.

If so, you’d need a 2.5mm 16amp radial circuit from the consumer unit to a suitable or nearby location for the oven."

"A 13 amp socket will be sufficient to power the new hob at 2.6Kw = 2600/230=11.30 amps,"

"Yes. Oven can be connected to same cable as hob. Would be sensible to wire it via a fused connection unit. It is not suitable to use a plug."

"Cable ok you can connect to cooker switch on your cooker wall2.5 cable"

"It's probably best to downgrade the protective device at the consumer unit to a maximum 32A type B MCB or 32A type B RCBO depending on type of consumer unit distributing the electrical supply to the household. A 6mm pvc/pvc twin and earth cable is recommended to carry no more than 32A supply

Also depending on the current rating of the existing hob combined with the current rating of the new oven determines whether or not this circuit is capable of carrying both loads safely when in both are in operation, there will only be 32A available in total, should the current demand be more than 32A then you run the risk of damaging the cable and equipment it is supplying through overloading on the circuit."
