New 16amp 3.6kW oven install

Want a new oven installed. Old one was 13amp connected via plug. Have 6mm cable attached to 40amp on circuit breaker already supplying induction hob. New oven is 3.6kW 16amp.

From what I've looked at i think I do not need new wire from circuit board. Is this correct?

"Is the oven going on the same circuit as the hob? The 40 amp fed from the 6mm cable? Technically, depending on how the cable is run, the 6mm may not be sufficient enough to carry 40 amps and should be on a 32 amp, connecting a 16 amp 3.6 kw to this would likely blow the breaker, seeing as the induction hob is potentially 6kw meaning your total power is 9.6kw, personally I would give them separate circuits"

"Yes you need a separate circuit fed from the board"

"You do not need a new cable from the consumer unit. Your new 16A oven can be connected to the same 6mm² cooker circuit as the hob, using a cooker connection unit with dual outlets. The 40A breaker and cable are sufficient, especially with diversity."

"Probably, but should supply the oven also with a 6.0mm cable or fuse accordingly"

"A 3.6 kW oven draws around 16 amps, so it’s above the rating for a standard 13 amp plug connection. Since you already have a 6 mm² cable on a 40 amp breaker supplying your induction hob, it is often possible to connect both the hob and the new oven to this same cooker circuit, provided the total load diversity and protective device are suitable.

Normally, this is done using a dual outlet (or a cooker connection unit with two points) designed for this purpose. The key is ensuring that the total load on the circuit remains within safe limits and that the installation complies with current wiring regulations.

You wouldn’t usually need to run a completely new cable back to the consumer unit just for the oven, but it does need to be installed correctly with the right protection and outlets. I’d recommend having a qualified electrician confirm on-site, as they’ll check the cable route, protective devices, and whether any adjustments are needed for compliance.

Best regards,"

"yes you will need a dedicated circuit for this as the current 6mm will already be close to limit i can imagine."

"Yes it is right. You can use existing circuit to install the oven. But in future when you can please upgrade the cable to 10mm."

""It's not necessary—your oven can be plugged into an existing socket in the kitchen.""
