Making plinths work in a modern kitchen?

What are some of the best and most suitable types of plinths to have installed in a modern kitchen? Where might they go and how can I make sure they "work"?

"We do aluminum in a few different shades to give the kitchen the edge.

You can also go for lower height plinths where doors stand out more and plinths look slimline."

"Plinths are otherwise know as kick boards and are fitted with clips to the legs on your base unit"
