Ivy growing up tree trunk

There's ivy growing up the trunk of my tree. Is it ok to leave it or should I get it removed? It stretches quite far up.

"Don't leave it it will eventually cover the whole tree Get it killed off then removed at base ."

"It is usually better to get ivy removed, if you sever the base of the ivy taking caution not to mark the bark and cambium layer of the tree this should be fine."

"Cut it all around at the base of the tree
And again a meter further up the rest will die back and become easy to remove"

"it must be eliminated and then kill any prey from where it comes, in the future as the Iedera grows thicker, it is not good for the tree."

"It’s always better to remove before it reaches the lower branches while it’s easy to remove,
If it’s left then it’s harder to determine the condition of the tree"

"All you have to do is cut a 6 inch section of the ivy all the way round the trunk of the tree and leave it the ivy to die"

"No as the ivy gets thicker it, strangles your tree and kills it"
