Is plastering hard compared to other DIY jobs?

I have some time off this xmas and looking for a project to keep myself busy. I've always been a bit intimidated to give plastering a shot, as everyone says it's easy to mess up. Is this really the case?

"Plastering is a not something to just have a go at. You really do need a professional to do it.
If you tried to do it yourself you just wouldn’t be fast enough to get it in before it started to dry. You wouldn’t want to do it to then have to take it all back the wall. Hope this helps"

"All depends on you, if your good with your hands etc, try one wall first"

"Yes , there a lot of factors such as backgrounds to be considered and if work is not prepared and done properly can be very expensive to rectify"

"Yes plastering is one of the few trades that generally you cant DIY it, i would definately suggest that you get a plasterer in to do this as it will save you alot of stress and work in the end."

"Yes it is not the easiest thing to do without training I would recommend hiring a professional"

"Yes plastering is harder than most DIY jobs.
It takes good timing and technique, the plaster sets fast, and mistakes are very visible, but full walls or ceilings are best left to an experienced plasterer."

"its all about timing, try a small area and buy a preworn trowel as the most experienced plasterer will struggle, or even fail to get a god finish with a new trowel"

"Most first-time plaster jobs look “fine” once painted, even if they wouldn’t pass a tradesperson’s inspection.Pros make it look easy because they’ve done it hundreds of times—not because it’s impossible for DIYers. Many “never try plastering” warnings come from people who tried once, rushed it, and expected pro results immediately."

"Plastering is probably the hardest of all the trade to master and do to a good standard I definitely wouldn't advise a d.i.y to do get a pro in"

"Yes plastering is really a tough work
And have to be patient
And it is easy to mess up"
