"Building a wall cubby can be a fun and rewarding DIY project, but it does require some basic woodworking skills and tools. Here are some tips to help you get started:

Plan and measure carefully: Before you begin building your wall cubby, you should carefully plan and measure the space where you want to install it. Consider the size and number of compartments you want, as well as the overall dimensions of the cubby.

Use appropriate materials: Choose materials that are appropriate for the intended use of your cubby. For example, if you plan to store heavy items, use thicker, sturdier wood and strong hardware to ensure that the cubby can support the weight.

Consider safety: Make sure to use appropriate safety gear when working with power tools or handling sharp objects. Also, consider the height and weight of the cubby, and make sure it is securely anchored to the wall to prevent it from falling over or collapsing.

Choose a visually appealing design: The amount of wall space your cubby should cover will depend on the size of the room and the overall aesthetic you are trying to achieve. Consider a design that complements the existing decor and enhances the visual appeal of the room.

Add practical features: Consider adding practical features to your cubby, such as hooks, shelves, or drawers, to make it more functional and versatile.

In terms of difficulty, building a wall cubby DIY can vary depending on your level of experience and the complexity of the design. It may be helpful to start with a simple design and gradually work your way up to more complex projects. Additionally, there are many tutorials and resources available online that can provide step-by-step instructions and tips for building a wall cubby"

"Anything is possible with DIY, but 99 times out of a hundred it's better to hire a tradesman. A tradesman would understand the reality of possible difficulties such as the durability of the wall for fixing points & hidden pipes??, any materials cost vs finish and the required strength of the design & structure, levels, plumb, and have experienced the various solutions to get the exact finish for the client visualized in a timely and safe manner."
