Is home insurance essential?
Is it essential to get homeowner insurance before having a new house constructed? If not, when would it be necessary and also when would it be strongly recommended (if it’s not legally required)?

"It’s not a legal requirement although most mortgage providers make building insurance a part of the contract which will protect the structure of the building, as well as any permanent fixtures. If you are building your home privately without a mortgage I would recommend to get a builders risk insurance which covers your home (unfinished) from any accidental damage, workers damage or storm damage etc. And then when work is complete buy home and contents insurance"
