Independent advice on boilers

Can heating engineers offer independent advice on new boilers? Or are they tied to certain boiler brands? Many in our area seem to have brand logos on their vans and websites.

"Most boiler brands give incentives to installers, like points at the BP garage.

So most heating engineers will sell you a boiler that gives them the most Benefit. (Ideal I are bad for this and heavily incentivised!)

Some heating engineers will sell you the boiler they like to fit, and have the most experience with.

But a good honest engineer will have a good knowledge of all boilers and should guide you to a good quality boiler that’s suited to your needs."

"Hi,
Independent Heating engineers can give their own advice on a particular new boiler, some engineers will be accredited with a certain manufacture like Worcester Bosch or valliant for example, in this case an accredited engineer can offer a longer warranty like ten years say, where as an engineer who is not accredited but still install boilers can only offer the manufacture warranty which is usually 2 to 5 years.
So when you see a van with a manufacture logo printed all over, they may be accredited and only install a certain brand, but can also install others if they choose to.
Like my self, I’m not an accredited engineer to a certain manufacture brand so I can’t offer a full ten year warranty, only the manufactures warranty of 2 to 5 years depending on the manufacture."

"Hi yes , gas engineers can give guidance on new boilers . Not specific boiler brands. Reputable boilers are always the best but each engineer have their own preferences. Hope this helps"

"Everyone has their favourites, however some are motivated by incentives given out by manufacturers"

"Hi Harry,
My advice on gas boilers is to go for one of the better brands , ie - Worcester Bosch , Vaillant, Ideal, or Baxi. All of these brands offer good warranties with some giving up to ten year warranties on certain appliances."

"anyone "accredited" by a manufacturer will be tied, and be offered freebies for installing x number of their boilers

there are some advantages, anyone "accredited" by the brand will be able to offer a little extra warranty but generally unless they are accredited by more than one they'll just hawk that specific brand to get freebies from the brand itself"

"Most engineers will favour a particular manufacturer, but should be flexible and willing to install what ever the customer wants, IMO."

"To answer your question in short, yes, a good engineer should give independent advice on different boiler types/ brands.
To go into more detail, alot of engineers like to install a specific brand of boiler because that's what they're most used to and so find easiest to install.
Companies also offer training on their boilers and give initiatives to engineers to install their boilers specifically.
If you have an engineer who cares about their customers they will give you good advice depending on what you're looking for and what you're willing to pay for it."

"Most companies will give a choice of boilers but some will favour certain makes, but if you want a choice of boilers get 2/3 quotes with different makes."
