How to stop stairs creaking

Our carpeted staircase is really squeaky on several steps. The underside of the stairs isn't accessible so is there a way to fix creaking stairs from the top without lifting the carpet?

Sadly no, either from the top or beneath. As they will need to be glued

The only way to stop them squeaking is through adding blocks and Pu glue to the underside of the steps between the treads and risers, even if you did remove the carpet there’s isn’t really anything you can do that will last to stop them creaking.

In short no. Need to lift carpets at least. Need a joiner who knows how stairs are made up  to remedy a half decent repair.

Short answer is No,

The carpet would need lifted and relayed.

Removing and refixing all areas that are creaking glueing and screwing all areas.

I would suggest glueing the full staircase while carpets are lifted.

Pepper the stairs with talcolm powder then fit your carpet if u have one

Not really need to get to the timber old trick used to be to brush talcum powder into the joints if it timber if msg then it’s probably needing some TLC so you would need access to both sides
