How to avoid ruining a solid hardwood floor?

What can ruin a solid hardwood floor? In other words, what should I avoid that could lead to unnecessary damage? Thanks!

"It can depend on the finish that you have on the flooring, the best rule of thumb is to follow the care guide. Don't use any harsh cleaners and if you have any parts that are showing signs of significant ware get a professional to repair the area so that any issues do not spread."
