How thick should a skim coat of plaster be?

How thick does a skim coat of plaster need to be? I'm having a practice run at doing it myself but I'm not sure how much plaster needs to go on.

"4 mm that is just a just guide line when plastering on plasterboard. 2 coats . All depends the suffice never exceed 7 or 8 mm he multi finsh will crack very bad max should be 6 really ."

"2 coats no more that 5mm, any more filling out needs bonding. Or if extreme dry lining or taking back to brick"

"Angle beads come as 3mm thick so you only skim to the bead edge meaning. 3mm thick"

"Base coat plaster should be around 11mm thick.
Top coat/skim coat should be around 2 mm"

"The total should be around 3mm. The first coat at 2mm then the second at 1mm. This can obviously fluctuate slightly on uneven walls buts that’s standard practice"
