How often should patio pointing be redone?

I’m wondering how long professional patio pointing should last in normal weather conditions before it needs redoing. Had ours done just a few years back and it looks like it needs doing again? This normal? If so, I might just switch over to using decking

"About every 5 years the patio needs repointing and jet cleaning.. Decking is a option but gets very slippery when wet with Moss on it.. hope I have been some help for you.. have a good day.. David."

"Hi Robert, if the patio was installed correctly ( good subbase and laid on a mortar bed of 50 mm ) and the pointing done right it should last ten years at least, similar to the exterior of a house. I've never had to repoint a patio I have laid in over twelve years. I would recommend having someone who knows what they're doing repoint it and that way it would outlast any timber decking you would put over the top. Regular cleaning should help with the weathering. I hope this helps.
All the best, James"
