How do i know if my chimney needs a liner?

Is a chimney liner something that's always required? And how much does a chimney liner cost?

"Nowadays, chimney liners are used, safety regulations, the cost of the liner depends on the length of the liner and its cross-section."

"A chimney liner is highly recommended and often practically necessary for safety, efficiency, and compliance with building regulations when upgrading heating systems. While older homes may not have had them, installing a modern wood-burning stove or multi-fuel appliance usually requires a liner to ensure the chimney is safe and performs

Cost is around £450 to £1000"

"It depends on what type of fire you are installing and the size and out put but with saftey in mind you should check with a local aproved installer and as to price there are a lot of factors that will vary the cost

"If it’s an open fire with no head cover n the top of the fire place internally (which there should be ) you will be able to feel for it if it’s a log burner you will need to take the fitting off to allow access to the chimney and again feel if there isn’t one you’ll require one"

"A chimney liner is not always required, but in many cases it is recommended or necessary depending on the condition of the chimney and the type of appliance being used.

If the chimney is old, leaking smoke, suffering from poor draw, damp staining, or if a new stove/fireplace is being installed, a liner is often advised to improve safety and performance.

The cost can vary depending on the height of the chimney, access, and the type of liner required, so the best option would be to have the chimney inspected properly first to determine what condition it is in and whether a liner is needed."
