How can I improve the look of my staircase?

Hi. I’m thinking of improving the look of my home’s staircase but I’m not quite sure how to go about it. See, I’ve considered, for example, adding wallpaper to the front-facing parts of the steps. What sort of wallpaper patterns/colours would work here and is there anything in particular to consider when applying wallpaper to stair risers? As in, is the process any different than adding wallpaper to a wall (except for cutting it out so that it will fit on the stair risers of course). Hope all this makes sense. Looking forward to hearing back!

"I wouldn't really recommend wallpapering stair risers. It wouldn't be durable enough and would easily get scuffed and torn."

"You can use wallpaper but you would have to use a different glue than wallpaper glue as you need to make sure it sticks well. There are loads of different patterns but you would need to make sure it fits across the whole stair to be effective. Hope this helps."

"I’ve found natural dark wood on the steps and the back of the stairs a bright White will really make your stairs stand out!"

"I personally would not put wallpaper on your verticals.
When I did the last job, like this I affixed nice laminate flooring to the verticals, as it will last for years. Then carpet on the horizontals.
I finished it off with lighting on a strip going up the stairs triggered by a sensor on the bottom step."

"hi im not sure wall paper will last long has your feet could catch it on the riser .have you though about a carpet runner with either stained or painted sides and some nice stair rods.if its only the riser why not go for laminate or vinyl flooring .you can always sand and wax or farnish"

"Adding wallpaper to your staircase can be super cool! You'd want patterns or colours that match your style. Maybe something fun like stripes, geometric shapes, or even nature designs like leaves or flowers.

When putting wallpaper on stair risers, it's a bit like putting it on a wall, but you'll need to measure and cut it to fit each step. The tricky part might be making sure it sticks well and stays flat, so it doesn't peel off easily.

Just make sure to use wallpaper that's durable and easy to clean because stairs can get dirty. And take your time measuring and applying it so it looks awesome on each step!"

"Wallpapers are pretty much repeat patterns where you have to line match with the next one if your stair riser is quite a wide one. Make sure the joint dies not to show so looks like one whole piece and cut neatly to finish off with no bubbles. You can use striking geometric patterns, flowers, metallic look, or whatever look you want to go for but don't use the brick effect as it will look dull. You can also make use of a colour coordinated look on your walls or floor. There is a vast array of striped looks too but the end decision is yours and make sure any nails, staples, or screws are not sticking out as it will year the wallpaper when sticking down. Use the paste on the paper and the riser and take out the bubbles with the brush or soft cloth. Once dry it will look amazing."

"Have you considered having murals on the walls? You could have images imprinted going up the staircase."
