"Yes, changing taps, sinks, baths and toilets can be done by a handyman. More complex jobs depend on handymans experience but would suggest plumber for bigger jobs like changing pipe lines."

"It depends on the confidence, knowledge and abilities of the handyman. You dont want leaks from water anywhere (small or simple), so I would say yes if you know the person and they come recommended. However only certified gas engineer for anything gas."

"The simple answer is yes but do not confuse plumbers and heating engineers.

A qualified heating engineer is required when touching any gas installations such as working on boilers but simple plumbing jobs such as taps, bathrooms and toilets can be performed by anyone however; I’d still recommend finding somebody competent to avoid damage to your property.

Some plumbers work alongside qualified heating engineers who can sign off any gas work required but you should always check they have adequate public liability insurance."

"Rods are not full proof in clearing drains a lot of the time they only temporarily clear the blockage depending on rod quality when people don’t necessarily understand how to use them they can come off in the drain and then you end up with a larger problem of trying to remove the stick rod."

"Every day plumbing tasks can be carried out by a handyman but if you want piece of mind and prefer experience over expense I would advise to call a local plumber, it may not be as expensive as you think."
