Hiring a bricklayer

Are there any qualifications or certificates a bricklayer should have to be competent at building a small extension?

"Don't be fooled by certificates and paperwork as this means nothing how good a bricklayer is -Go look at the persons work on there current site and physically see their work is the best way to do your due diligence"

"He could be time served bricklayer which meens he learned his trade over time.

Most bricklayers have qualifications but alot dont. If hes not very good then get rid before causes you more damage."

"Level 2 construction certification, most bricks don't have this though as it is a learn on the job sort of thing"

"Always ask to see references and pictures of previous jobs in your area any clown can hold a trowel but it takes 4 yrs college to use one and also when get past references ask to speak to the past customer because any one can fake pictures for a job ask around about the builder you intend to use"

"Some builders leans by working experience and some by attending training either of them proves experience some people can obtain qualifications and jet not hard enough sites working experience and some but these who learn from working experience have practical skills the only way to know a good one reference from the work they have done for some car already"

"This one is okay for a time served bricklayer that has been work onsite for many years who has served an apprenticeship or he has a N V Q in brickwork leaves 3 but would need a couple of years laying"

"Nvq level 1 Cscs card liberty insurance u haven’t got to theses days as u only need Cscs card for Buidings sites"

"Ha just read some comments I think Allan construction or builders ? Is right in what he’s saying sometimes those with all qualifications carnt do the practicality side of things and are U S !! Got them at my works , always do your homework and don’t be fooled as there is plenty of chancers out there !! Called cowboys , who don’t think nothing about just ripping you off , so don’t pay upfront pay in stages as the work progresses, best of luck ."
