hanging a ledger and joists

Hello,

I'm hanging a ledger onto a brick wall to hang some joist hangers off. What sort of fixings and how many should be used in the ledger to hold it on the wall? 3.5m in length and it's holding quite a heavy load.

"You need a structural engineer to specify don't cut corners. If you guess we ask a builder's opinion, you're taking responsibility, and that heavy load could fall on someone's head, and you would be liable."

"I’m in agreement with other builders. You must contact a structural engineer."

"Mark out your 400 centers on the ledger board/timber , to receive your joists.

Pre drill x2 holes in between joists marking , place your ledger into position, and using a hammer drill , drill into the wall. Make sure holes are dust free .

Secure ledger with epoxy resin into each hole followed by 12mm threaded rod cut at 250 mm with washer plate and nut , then tighten ."

"3inch raw bolts..4 in each ledger . You have to check what type of bricks or it could be breeze block..if its breeze block then you want to be drilling into the bottom of them as some types are hollow and you won't get a good contact on them the same if its new bricks as the have holes in them so try and get them into the bottom or side of the brick...if the bricks are old handmade then they are solid all the way through....hope this helps"

"Use 150mm /10mm turbo masonry bolts with square washers at 600mm
Centers or nearest to center of full brick for best fixing, and avoid fixing where
Hanger’s are going."
