Ask your QuestionHow long should water stay warm with a gas boiler before cooling down again? I want to know how long I should expect the water to stay hot after heating up to use a shower at some point later that day.
Asked by angie on 9th Mar 2021"Depending on the quality of the cylinder and the lagging /insulation and the temperature set on the cylinder stat? But would be surprised if it wasn't hot enough to shower within 8 hours"

You could schedule it to come on at 3pm until 6pm for example and have plenty of hot water for the evening for a family. If you live alone and work during the day then I would expect a one to two hour heat up in the morning to be ample for a single shower at night including some washing up."

If you have a system boiler ie one with a tank in the airing cupboard your boiler heats up the water in the tank, and a lot depends how you have your boiler controls set for example if you have your water on constant the boiler will try and keep the tank at the preset temp if you have it on timed it will only heat at the set times and with heavy use you may find yourself running out out of hot water.
Hope this helps."
"If you have a combination boiler there is not storage to keep hot water in the boiler and waiting time to get hot water in the shower is as long as the hot water comes through the pipes from the boiler"
