"Depending on the size, we would probably recommend french doors."

"In my opinion they are both safe but from a fire point on view French doors are more safer as a sliding door is a heavy door and the runners normally become stuck and stiff"

"Personally I think French doors are better as u can open 1 like a normal door or both to have a wide opening whereas with a patio u are governed to only a half opening door at all times and also see a lot more upvc"

"Hi Karen,
It will all depend on Glass area coverage.
Having spent a lot of my working time covering the London borough of Havering and especially Romford which was in the top 3rd of burglary areas of the UK most if not all break ins happened by smashing glass to enter and not lock picking. Smashing a large pane of glads which would normally be toughened would allow a thief to break in within seconds. So I would try and keep glass areas to a minium and with that in mind french doors woukd be safer providing You DO not have large glass areas but smaller ones divided by transoms or mullions (glazing bars) and not the aesthetical georgian bars.
Fact is of someone is determined to break on to get what they want they will find a way. One should be aiming to proling them getting in , that should be the aim!"

"It's totally up to yourself you can ask for the French doors to be double shoot bolted for more security"
