Filling hole in brickwork

After removing an old plastic pipe from the wall we now have a hole that's 6 or 7cm wide in the brickwork. What's best to fill this with?

"A simple way to repair a hole in brick is to use a silicone caulk or a sealant. You simply need to clean the area first, so that it's free from dirt or brick dust. You can use a stiff brush to do this, or blast compressed air over the affected area."

"If its a exterior wall using a 4 to 1 sand and cement mix will be sufficient enough. If your doing in the interior pack it and use a filler"

"Mortar is the only thing to use outside but block hole up first with a broken brick and backfill the surface so mortar not too thick"

"You need to cut out more bricks cutting into the mortar line to have full bricks missing. Most bricklayer will be able to relay full bricks into the opening."

"You will be best just using sand and cement, I would recommend getting some cement die to blend it into the brick so it won’t stand out as much, hope this helps"

"Coarse Sharp Sand and Cement. You should be able to get a 5kg bag of this from your local hardware store."
