"carpet and paint is the most durable stair runner options. Painted sides and carpet run along the middle. we would recommend runner keeps aswell to hold in place as most proffessionals will do this in one peace. As for decorating the better the prep the longer it will hold, Oil base coatings are much more durable but they do need correct base coatings"
