"Re: your last reply, houses etc have been built without concrete foundations for centuries, the big difference is the mortar which would have been sand & lime which can settle without cracking. Sand& cement mortar is the norm nowadays & the slightest movement will result in cracks. Hence the reason a concrete foundation is reqd plus of course building control would never accept a sand foundation."
