"Ivy is probably brickworks greatest enemy, it can find its way into the smallest cavities & once it does it will widen the gap as it grows. It is also hideously difficult to remove if it is allowed to grow. I speak from personal experience on the several occasions I've been asked to remove it."

"Yes IVY damages walls by it's roots eroding the face of the brickwork especially with a softer brick.
It also holds on to moisture witch then soak into the brickwork.
So t may look nice but accelerates the erosion of the wall.
Hope this helps"

"Yes it does ivy is one of the worst things to have on a wall! it blows the face of bricks also if there a small hole in the brick work it will get in there!once inside the cavity you could face a bigger problem so if its on there get it off ASAP."

"Yes because it holds water which then soaks into the bricks , Then overtime mortar will fallout of the joints causing damp . Then repointing will be needed."

"A well built wall will withstand ivy, but if there is any shrinkage or cracks, that will allow ivy to spread roots which grow as it matures. This will cause damage."
