Does converting a garage add value?

We’ve got a single garage that’s just full of junk, and I’m tempted to turn it into a spare room (bedroom, extra living area). But I'm not clear on whether this actually adds any value to the house if we were to move in a few years. Is there anyone who does garage conversions who can give me an overview of cost vs value added?

"💷 Typical Costs
• Converting a single garage into a habitable room usually costs around £6,000 – £30,000 in the UK, depending on size, finish, whether you need plumbing, electrics, insulation, flooring, new walls or windows, etc.
• Average garage conversion projects often land between £10,000 and £20,000 for a basic conversion without structural changes.

📈 Potential Added Value
• Many property and construction experts suggest a well-executed garage conversion can increase your home’s value by about 10 – 20 %, especially if you turn it into a useful living space like a bedroom or family room.
• Other sources indicate a slightly more conservative range of around 5 – 15 %, depending on the housing market, quality of the work, and local demand."

"If it’s done correctly and building control is happy with the preposition and signed off accordingly then yes this will add value"

"It would depend on the value of the house and what the demand is in that area. I have just priced a double garage conversion at £35k"

"It depends on the level and cost of the work it needs to be done to building control standard or cannot be classed as official conversion and would not add any value
Also if parking is limited in area taking away a parking area could decrease the value of the house"

"I would suggest speaking with a local estate agent for advice. They will know the demand in your area and will be able to give an understanding of the value once works are complete.
Most importantly you want your home to meet your needs, so if you need the extra living space its a great idea."

"A single garage conversion usually costs £10,000–£24,000+, can add roughly 10–20% value if done properly, and must meet Building Regulations.

"Depends on what you’re converting it into.
It will ad value so long as it’s done to current building requirements and they are signed off by building control
You will need planing permission even though you’ll be told by people you don’t"

"Garage adding value to the property, subject to done correct is compliance with building regulations and all necessary certificate on completion. The cost is very much depends size, complexity of work future usage for example as bedroom only or kitchen extension.
Each project is base on same achievement but have different approach, firs have to have done survey then tell you what's is passible what's is not and cost schedules if that make senses.
If you have any more questions please let me know.
