Do I have to use undercoat after primer for white gloss wood paint ?

Hi guys I could use abit of advice, I’m painting my bathroom door using johnstones non-drip gloss white paint, it was previously paint gloss white but it started to flake away real bad so wanting to paint it again. I’ve sanded it down and applied one coat of Johnstone’s any surface paint primer last night, I was just wondering if I need to use undercoat on it too or can I just use gloss paint now ?
How many coats of primer should I do first ?

"Undercoat / Primer is basically the same. Make sure you sand the door. Apply primer and Gloss paint or Silk has to be final coat and not Matt.

I hope that helps!!!"

"i normally get a primer / undercoat all in one . If it looks good with just the primer not patchy i would gloss it if you feel the surface is covered well enough with the primer."

"R.S DECORATORS.. You did the right thing Mo. As the paint was flaking previously this what happens when no undercoat ,primer is use.d.
Since you already primed it just put gloss paint straight on top.. but being a painter if I used non drip which I hate...I would put some turpentine and mix it so it goes on easier...rather than spreading blobs ..
Sure you do a good job ...you got preparation right"

"Your task has been noted! You will need to use an abrasive pad all over your door
to etch the surface, then proceed with an undercoat, using the same system prior to applying o gloss finish, hope this helps, regards Anthony"

"Using an undercoat before applying white gloss wood paint can help achieve a smoother and more uniform finish, especially if the wood surface is uneven or porous. It also enhances the durability of the final paint job. While primer provides a good base, an undercoat helps the topcoat adhere better and provides better coverage. So, while not strictly necessary, it's often recommended for the best results."
