Do handymen quote for small jobs?

Is it usual for a handyman not to quote for small jobs? I've spoken to one who said it's not worth producing a quote and the cost won't change. Should I trust him?

"Yes they do well I do I think that every job requires a quote whether the job is big or small so the customer can decide the cheapest or most reasonable price some jobs can taken 10 minutes some coud take days so yes all jobs should require a quote"

"No, the answers no, no matter the size of the job big or small, there will always be a quote, usually fellow tradesmen will say that the job is to small and the cost won’t change to trick you into thinking so, but any job at any size is worth quoting, thankyou, Jack."

"Most Handyman jobs are small. If it is only a couple of hours,i would have to charge half a day plus materials."

"No, always get a quote for your works no matter how small the job is. I know too many people who have come unstuck with not having a quote. Hope this helps."

"I have found it’s difficult to formally quote for small jobs. It comes down to cost of time and materials and travelling time. If you supply the materials that’s a cost benefit to you. But if you buy unsuitable or sub standard materials that is your risk. If you force a quotation it will probably be higher than normal as handyman will want to protect self if job is protracted and takes longer. And of course there are handymen that will take advantage unfortunately. Best to find a good trustworthy one and stick with. Quality of finished job should be proportional to price."

"It depends on what job you’re asking him to quote for but in some cases he is right. And it just isn’t worth quoting the job."

"Hi,

Most have a minimum charge, can mainly be a set rate for first hour and every hour after that for small jobs

Quotes depend on lots of factors, materials, travel, labour etc"

"Hi in answer to your question we do quote for small jobs. However it is more cost effective to source a local handy man as this reduces travel time and expense.
Kind regards
Cliff"
