cost of repointing a 5-6 square metres area of wall

How much does it cost to hire a specialist to repoint a 5-6 square metres area of a wall? What about the labour and supply costs individually? Alternatively, is this something that I can do myself? If so, what should I know and roughly, what are the steps involved?

"Approximately 150 to 180 pounds varies according to type of pointing required, this is something you could do yourself but can be very dusty if a grinder is required. It needs raking out to a depth of 15 to 20mm before wetting(to remove dust and aid adhesion) before repointing."

"On average, I’m my experience of having done this work for a long time now, you're looking in the region of 1500-2000 for a really good reputable person to do the job. You could find someone less expensive but they might be less professional and you might even find it to be more costly. But the price I’m saying is in the ballpark of highly skilled tradesmen"

"pointing is an art form and has to be done in the correct manner. This can be difficult not to get mortar slops on your brickwork.
Some tips when pointing.:
Use a consistent coloured mix example don't put less cement in one mix and another large measure in another, this will show up in your wall and look bad. Use a gauge for cement and a gauge ie bucket etc for sand, keep consistency.

Don't have the mix too sloppy keep it a thicker consistency.

Fill the downward joints, called cross joints first then fill the long ways joints called bed joints after.

make sure you rake out any existing old mortar.

Wet or dew the raked joints out before applying mortar, make sure the mortar does not stain the brick.

After the mortar had dried go over the wall with a soft brush, taking away any slops that has formed."

"to answer your question 1 would need to see the area in question , pointing is a specialist job a photograph would suffice, if it is face brickwork to your home! patch pointing will be no good whatsoever, remember a car is no good without an engine, the brickwork of your home is its engine, the materials to such meterage is insignificant it is the time and labour the main cost and how long it is going to take good preperation is absolutly crucial or the repointing will fail miserably, try it yourself by all means but when you make a mess it will cost you alot more to put right GOOD LUCK HOPE THIS HELPS"

"If it’s just a section on one elevation I would have the full elevation pointed it would look better.

If it’s just an area on a wall then around £500"
