Cost of fixing Squeaky stairs

My staircase is incredibly squeaky and there feels to be a loose floorboard at the top - how can this be fixed as the noise is incredibly irritating and getting worse (especially with kids running up and down!)

How much would a job like this expect to cost?

"Hi
Is your staircase in a new house or old.
If it’s new the chances are it’s MDF which will squeak, if it’s an older house the chick blocks on the back of the treads may have come away.
Either way the stairs need to be opened up underneath to be made good, that’ll mean cutting away and replacing whatever is underdrawn.

Hope that helps"

"Not entirely easy to answer this question and here's why:

You need to investigate the cause of the squeak is it the joist or floorboard causing it?

Carpet or laminate will need to be lifted to investigate.

Depending on materials needed it may only require some screws to batten down the hatches as it were.

With full investigation to insure the problem is cured i would estimate £200 / £300"

"Just repaired some, cost £100 . Removed the carpet and underlay. Then screwed down the risers at the edges, refitted underlay and carpet."

"A job like this would have to be seen in person and assessed as with a staircase it could be a number of things , eg loose treads, loose risers, glue blocks fallen off"

"If access to the underside insert extra blocks, glue and screw the risers or may need replacement."

"Cost of repairing a squeaky stair case can vary depending on if you have access to get underneath the stairs. But you should expect cost to be somewhere between £250-£450 ."

"It should be easy to fix using fixing screws to push down the boards .

Worst case is lifting the boards and placing a filler underneath the boards then screwing back down.

Cost would depend on how much needed done , but would say no more than a days work at £250"
