Cental heating thermostat

My electrician removed my boiler timer in error, what can I use to replace it. I hear a hive or Google nest are alternatives. Are they easy ish to Install? Or are there any other suggestions please.
Thanks in advance.

"Yes easy to wire in in you know what your doing. Don’t buy Nest as they are pulling out of the uk market and won’t offer support. There is other stats on market also, like EPH, Tado"

"I have to agree with Douglas on this one. I m not a boiler person but recently had a similar problem and my friend which came to rescue me said something very similar.

But plenty others to pick from."

"Depends on what boiler you have. For example if you have a Vaillant, the senso range is good."

"We always install hive programmers and receivers as they are the highest quality in the market. Please get your local heating engineer to quote we charge between £250-£300"

"You’d need a gas safe registered engineer to fit a new thermostat as it involves taking the boiler case off.

Nest are no longer trading in this country my recommendation would be Hive."

"You can fit a standard wired programmer or upgrade to a smart thermostat.

If you want simple and cheaper, fit a basic programmer like a dual channel timer. Supplied and fitted is usually £120 to £250.

If you want smart control, Hive or Nest both work well. Expect £200 to £350 supplied and fitted.

Installation is straightforward if you have a combi boiler with a simple switched live. It is more involved if you have a system boiler with hot water cylinder and zone valves.

Check what boiler you have first. If unsure, get a heating engineer to wire it correctly. Incorrect wiring can damage the boiler PCB."

"You can replace the boiler timer with either a smart thermostat such as Google Nest or Hive, both of which work well with most UK boilers, but installation may not be straightforward if new wiring or a heat link is required, so professional fitting is often recommended; alternatively, if you prefer a simpler and more cost-effective option, a standard programmable thermostat from Drayton or Honeywell can directly replace the timer in many cases and is usually easier to install, though the exact choice depends on your boiler model and existing wiring."
