  • New electric shower or replace with mixer shower?

I've recently bought my first house & the electric shower has started to smell like burning. I've turned it off & won't be using it. I've never had an electric shower before, would it be a costly job to replace the electric shower with a mixer shower? If it matters the shower is at the opposite end to the bath taps. If I was to replace the electric shower, it's a Triton 3+ 9.5 watt. The new ones I've seen in my budget are 4.5 watt, would this have a, lot less pressure than my current one? I'm on a budget & have no idea about these things so which option would be cheaper to install & also cheaper to run long term? Thank you

What is the difference between Flueless and Flue Gas Fires?

Can anyone tell me what difference there is between having flue and flueless gas fires? I have recently removed an old gas fire from my house and now have a gap. I want to install a modern gas fire in the space, but I don’t know what difference it would be if it is flue or flueless. Is it related to the chimney pipe up to the chimney from the fire? Can anyone advise me on here, please?

Are plastic pipes suitable to use with radiators?

Hi all, We’ve had some pipes replaced recently by a professional plumber to resolve some problems. Although, the issues have been resolved, I’ve since noticed the pipes themselves are plastic – I have some concern about this as these are pipes connected directly and indirectly to the radiators and the boiler. Given the heat that could be involved, this is a concern to me – is this normal to have plastic piping used like this nowadays?

Has my shower screen been sealed correctly?

Hello, I have installed a new bath shower screen recently. It does fit, but seems to be a little looser than expected. Does this happen usually, or ought there be more stiffness or friction to limit it’s movement? Also – I have a seal leak at the end of the hinge. Is there a possible way to stop this? Or any recommended seals I should use instead? Any advice would be appreciated – thanks!

    Getting qualified

Hi I'm in my mid twenties years old and would love to start a career in Plumbing. What is the best way to getting qualified? I was told that City of Guilds is one of the best options for getting a qualification. Is this true? Whether it is or not, I would really appreciate some more information on this matter. The sooner I can start the better. Thanks in advance

What is the best option to seal between a bath and wall tiles?

Hi all I have a bath fitted to a corner with tiles to the joining walls, where the sealant material which joins the bath edge and the tiles seems to be peeling away. I don’t want to leave this issue too long for the risks of leaking as it wears away further. What would be the best sealant product I could use to replace this current material that’s peeling away? If there are any other products or ideas anyone recommends, please let me know.

    Replacement outside Tap

Hi, I have recently had a repair done on my stop tap. The plumber removed the outside tap as a quick repair. He came back the next day to do the repair. After he finished the job i asked him about the outside tap. He said sorry i forgot to connect it. So off her went and reconnected the outside tap. My question is he's not fitted a DCV or a way for me to isolate the water during winter. There wasn't a DCV installed before but does he not need to install one now? Thanks
