Can you paint over wood stain?

We've got some dark stained wooden doors that we want to paint white. Do we need to strip the stain first? or primer and paint go straight over it?

"You do not normally need to strip the stain first. Clean the doors thoroughly, lightly sand the surface, then apply a high-adhesion stain-blocking primer before painting. Once the primer is dry, apply two coats of white paint. Stripping is only necessary if the existing finish is peeling, damaged, or unstable."

"Yes, you can paint over stained wood. However, because stained wood is often sealed with a slick clear coat (like polyurethane), you must prep correctly to prevent the paint from peeling or the underlying stain from bleeding through"
