Can you gloss radiators?

I want to repaint our old radiators with a proper gloss finish rather than radiator paint. Will standard gloss hold up to the heat. Any preparation needed?

Only if keyed and primed, otherwise the Gloss won't adhere to the enamel surface.

Use oil-based or alkyd gloss rated for at least 80–90°C. Water-based wall gloss is more likely to yellow, crack, or soften over time.
Preparation (important):
Turn radiator off and let it cool fully
Clean thoroughly (degrease—old paint collects grime)
Light sanding (key for adhesion)
Apply a metal primer / rust-inhibiting primer
Then apply thin coats of gloss

Yes you can gloss the radiators you just need to sand them down first

A quick sand down will usually do the job before applying the gloss but typically, oiled based gloss will yellow quickly. Make sure you do it with the radiators turned off and also prime any bare metals. I hope this helps

Yes, you can use standard gloss on radiators, but it must be a premium, heat-resistant, metal-compatible formula.  For the best results, use a water-based "intelligent" gloss (like Dulux Trade Quick Dry Gloss) which resists yellowing.
And yes you will have to do preparation like sanding down. This gives the new paint something to grab onto. Also all depends on the condition of the radiators, if they are flaking then you’ll have to scrap all that off and do some filling . Again all depend to how perfect you want them to look.

The radiators will need sanding down and cleaning, and then I would recommend 2 coats of gloss to cover - it will hold up to the heat.

Absolutely 
It is worth spending time in good preparation 
Make sure that the heating is not on and won’t be on after for both undercoating and top coating as this will undoubtably make it run 
Good ventilation 
Oil based will settle and give it a flatter finish or use a fine roller
