Can original bakelite switches work with modern electrics

Can I still use the old bakelite switches in my home after rewiring or will they be incompatible? I really want to salvage as much of my home's interior as possible.

"The electrical outlets have to comply with British Standards, so called BS....
If your outlets comply with existing BS then it should be alright. The BS number should be marked on every item."

"Hi Angie,

They are compatible although non compliant if they are the twist on covers as the live parts are accessible without tools.

Switch to wood online do a bakelite variety of switch that has a screwed face covering which we have fitted for clients in the past to keep the older feel to a property

Kind Regards

"Yes but if the wiring is as old as the switches , you will probably have issues with the condition of the cables plus I would imagine there isn’t any earths in the wiring therefor go with plastic switches and not metal , if there isn’t earth cable that is"
