Can I use masking tape on a wood floor?

Is it okay to apply masking tape to wood flooring prior to painting the skirting? Does it depend on the type of wood flooring etc.? Thanks!

"That should be fine, but to be extra cautious you can use a low tack masking tape such as ‘frog tape - delicate surface’"
