"Hard to give a definitive answer due to expansion vessels vary from boiler to boiler, some boilers have to come off the wall to access them. Sometimes cheaper to add an external expansion vessel. Would say upwards of £200 though. If you wanted to let me know make and model could be more definitive. Thanks"

"It really does depend on the model of the boiler as some are very simply to access and replace whereas othere are not so simple, for example the very old Worcester boilers you had to remove the fuel just to access the vessel, I could advise further if you could tell me what boiler it is that needs an explanation vessel replacement"

"Replacing a boiler expansion vessel typically involves two main cost components: the part itself and the labour to fit it.

Typical Replacement Cost Range

Total cost (parts + labour): £120 to £350+ for most domestic boilers.

Parts only: Boiler expansion vessels themselves often range from £30 to £150+ depending on size and brand.

Labour: A Gas Safe engineer’s labour charge is generally £60 +, depending on boiler accessibility and regioner.

Brand-Specific Estimates
Some boiler manufacturers’ vessels can cost more, particularly if internal access is difficult:

Worcester Bosch: approx £200–£350 total.

Vaillant: approx £180–£330 total.

Ideal or Baxi: often slightly cheaper, around £150–£300.

Additional Considerations

If the pressure relief valve (PRV) or other components also need replacing, this will increase the overall bill. Many engineers recommend replacing the PRV when fitting a new expansion vessel.

In some cases the existing expansion vessel can be recharged (air pressure reset) rather than fully replaced — this is cheaper (e.g., £50–£90) but only suitable if the vessel is intact."
