Best ratio of kitchen cupboards to drawers?

What's a good ratio of cupboards and drawers to have in a kitchen? Drawers seem to be almost half of the base units in some showrooms.

No set ratio as far as I'm aware,just depends on your preference of storage method.
Some clients like wide deep drawers as opposed to a cupboard with 2 shelves for better access to kitchen paraphernalia. 
As long as it works for you is the only answer possible.

In my opinion, it all depends on the individual preferences of the kitchen user, his needs, cooking method, room size, kitchen design and many other factors that are difficult to generalize.  I believe that drawers are very convenient and practical.  They also influence the total cost of a new kitchen.
Try to imagine how you would use your kitchen and what would be in those drawers.  Do you remember how you took something out of the cupboard to reach deep into it for a rarely used item.? And for this you have to crouch or bend down.  Now pull out the drawer and see how everything is at your fingertips.  You should have as many drawers as you need.

There is no right answer to this.  You need to consider what you need to store in Draws Vs Cupboards.  You also want to consider the look of the door fronts.  Do you want it to look like every door has a draw at the top ?  You could have hidden draws that sit just behind the door and then have full hight doors all the way around

There is no real answer as usually the customer will decide on how many drawers needed. However one can strike a balance as you have mentioned in your question.
