Back Boiler Replacement

Hello,

I’m looking at buying a property which has a back boiler, what would the likely cost be of removing this and replacing it with a combi boiler? I appreciate costs will vary, depending on work needed.

The current back boiler is in the lounge, the water tank is in the bedroom directly above. We’d like the combi boiler to be placed in the kitchen.

We’re based in Hampshire. Many thanks for any advice.

"Hi. Cost £4000 to £6000. Depending of boiler make. In my opinion Vaillant or Worcester Bosch."

"Hiya,
Replacing a back boiler is a fairly big job because the old one and the water tank need taking out, and then new pipework has to be run for the combi in the kitchen.

In Hampshire you’d normally be looking at around £3,500–£5,000 for the full job, depending on how much pipework is needed and which boiler you go for. A straight swap (no moving things about) can be cheaper, closer to £2,500–£3,000, but as you want it moved to the kitchen, budget towards the higher end.

Best bet is to get a couple of Gas Safe engineers round for quotes — they’ll tell you what’s possible in your property and give you a firm price."

"Hi, the cost of removing a back boiler and replacing it with a combi boiler can vary quite a bit, especially as you’d like the new boiler moved into the kitchen. Typically, you’d be looking at anywhere between £3,000 – £5,000 depending on the exact work involved.

This usually includes:

Removal of the old back boiler and fire.

Decommissioning and removal of the hot water tank.

Supply and installation of a new combi boiler in the kitchen.

Pipework alterations, flue installation, and making good the walls.

Because of the relocation and extra pipework, it’s generally at the higher end of the scale compared to a straightforward swap. Prices also depend on the brand/model of boiler you choose and the installer’s rates in Hampshire. Best option would be to get 2–3 quotes from local Gas Safe engineers so you can compare."

"Hello,
I would estimate : 4K - 5K .
It obviously depends on the system size and which quality of boiler you are looking to replace the BBU with.
I hope this helps."

"Hi Sara,
As you mentioned it definitely does depend on a few factors like the current setup, location of the new boiler, and any additional work needed. That said, you’d generally be looking at somewhere between £3,000 and £5,000 all in — that includes the removal of the existing back boiler, the new combi boiler, parts, and labour. All the best"
