I’m looking for someone to advise where the damp is coming from and if work is needed to rectify problem. It may be coming from the attic where the extractor fan pipe from the bathroom lies. The damp is along a bedroom ceiling where it joins the wall above a window in an 8yr old house.

Hi We are looking to purchase a bungalow which has already had the chimney breast removed, but our survey has revealed that the remaining chimney breast in the loft has not been secured properly and is supported by pieces of wood on the joists! Also there are no building certificates or party wall agreements for this work so could be a legal nightmare. Would it be viable to correct this problem or maybe just rebuild the fireplace and install a wood burner at the same time? Michael
How risky is it to install an RSJ DIY? Is it okay to do so? Do you need special permission or approval? How does it work? Thanks.
Hi. I’m thinking of improving the look of my home’s staircase but I’m not quite sure how to go about it. See, I’ve considered, for example, adding wallpaper to the front-facing parts of the steps. What sort of wallpaper patterns/colours would work here and is there anything in particular to consider when applying wallpaper to stair risers? As in, is the process any different than adding wallpaper to a wall (except for cutting it out so that it will fit on the stair risers of course). Hope all this makes sense. Looking forward to hearing back!
