Why is it expensive to run an electric boiler?

Why are electric boilers more expensive to run than gas boilers and will this likely change in the coming years? Are there any types of electric boilers that are cheaper to run?

"The electric boiler consumes more power and generally, the electricity has been more expensive than gas per kw until more recently. Once the Russia and Ukraine issue is resolved the gas price may come down but that will take some time. For properties, the electric boiler needs to run longer than gas boilers to provide heat. As most households have phase one electric supply with 100amps of total power. A 10kw electric boiler will consume around 50% of the power whereas a gas boiler runs on 3amps and you can go up to 40kw gas boiler."
